Japanese Clothing
Although most Japanese people wear Western-style dress (yofuku), on special occasions such as weddings or festivals Japanese men and women attire themselves in kimonos.
Kimonos are wraparound garments which actually originated in China. It was during the Nara Period (710-784) that the Japanese imperial court adopted the Chinese style of dress called the p’ao and since then the kimono has undergone changes to make it more distinctly Japanese.
Japanese children do not know how to dress in a kimono. They can learn how to put one on at school.
