About Japan

Japanese legends say that the sun goddess Amaterasu gave birth to the Japanese people at the dawn of time. However, it is now believed that the ancestors of modern Japanese people first settled there around 2,200 years ago.

The population of Japan is around 127 million people compared to Australia's population which is approximately 24 million people. However, Australia's land mass is 20 times larger than that of Japan. That means that there are many more people in Japan than Australia and much less room! Furthermore, only 15 per cent of the Japan's land is flat enough to build on or to cultivate. As a result, most of the population live crowded along the island’s edges.
